Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Zoological Garden (ZOO)

The idea of establishing Zoological gardens at Lucknow emanated from Sir Harcourt Butler, the Governor of the State,was established in the year 1921 to commemorate the visit of His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales to Lucknow.
It was earlier known as Prince of Wales Zoological Gardens and is the oldest zoo in Northern India.Now this is known as as,Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Zoological Garden (ZOO).
It is situated in 29 hectares area in heart of the city. It houses around 1000 animals of more than 100 species. 
Some Species are,Bengal Tiger,White Tiger,Asiatic Lion,Leopard/Panther,Leopard Cat,Palm Civet Cat,Black buck ,Indian Rhino,Barking deer,Macaque Stump tailed,Lion tailed Monkey,Indian Giant Squirrel,Indian Porcupine,Kalij pheasant,Indian Griffon Vulture,Rosella,Great Horn owl,Budgeriger ,Crocodile Marsh (Mugger),Indian Cobra,Sand Boa,Viper,Albino Tiger Shark,Fire Mouth,Alligator gar,Oscar,Black Widow Terata,Zebra Cichlid and many others.

TOY TRAIN

In Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Zoological Garden (ZOO) there was also a toy train which increases the attraction of the zoo.There was also a historic Rail Engine which stands on the zoo.

State Art Museum

In Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Zoological Garden (ZOO) there was also a State Art Museum.This was also increases the attraction of the people from all over the world.This Museum has a vast collection of about one Lac specimens. This can be broadly classified into main five sections.
  • Archaeological Section comprising of pre-historical implements, pottery and bricks, sculptures, terracotta’s, metal images, seals, beads, stone inscriptions and copper plates.
  • Numismatic Section comprising of gold, silver and copper coins, medals and paper currency.
  • Art Section comprising of paintings and textiles, metal ware, wood work, ivory and toys.
  • Natural History
  • Ethnography
There was a collection of Gold Ornaments, Arms and Armours, Manuscripts and Farmans, Musical Instruments and other miscellaneous curio items.
and also a collection of some rare  sculptures representing Brahmanical, Buddhist and Jaina pantheons.But the main attraction in museum was The Egyptian Mummy which was about 1000 BC.

Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Zoological Garden (ZOO) is a very beautiful and historic place.
