Chattar Manzil
One of the most beautiful structures built by the Nawabs of Lucknow.It was constructed by order of Nawab Ghazi Uddin Haider and completed after his death by his successor, Nawab Nasir Uddin Haider.The Chattar Manzil stand on the banks of the River Gomti. This structure is also popular by the name of Umbrella Palace. The ‘chhatar’ a top this building forms part of Lucknow’s official logo.It is an example of Indo-European-Nawabi architectural style.A portion of it was also destroyed by Britishers during the war of 1857.
Recently it used as The Central Drug Research Institute (C.D.R.I.) and is now proposed to be developed as a museum on Awadh heritage and traditions.Government of Uttar Pradesh plans to set up two museums and a library at the Palace after its renovation and conservation by the State Archaeological Department.
