British Residency Lucknow

" The Lucknow Residency is built for the British Resident during the rule of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan in 1780-1800, it was originally a large complex of many buildings including residential quarters, armoury, stables, worship places and many other."During the period rule of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan (1798-1814), the construction of the main residency building was completed.
The Lucknow Residency is a witness of the First war of Independence in 1857.Under the command of Maulvi Ahmad Ullah Shah, the attack on the Residency began on the 30th June, 1857.Indian soldiers started shelling the British forces on 1st July 1857 in a room on the eastern flank.Due to the attack of the Indian soldiers on Residency forced the British officers and their families to remain captive in the Residency for a period of 86 days.
 Now Lucknow Residency turns in ruins and has been declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India. 
Thousands of people killed and the cemetery at the nearby ruined church has the graves of 2000 men, women and children, including that of Sir Henry Lawrence who died during the siege.

In Residency there also has a museum that is well-maintained by the authorities.In the museum there was lot of antics and ancient things like pictures, armor etc were placed
